Katie Van Syckle is a senior staff editor at The New York Times. She was previously a writer and editor for New York Magazine's The Cut. 

She has also written for Vice, Rolling Stone, Cosmopolitan, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Wall Street Journal, and The New Orleans Times-Picayune. 

At New York Magazine she wrote cover stories on Grumpy Cat and the college hookup culture. Recently her work has focused on gender-based violence and college sexual assault. 

Based in New Orleans for several years, she covered food and culture for The New Orleans Times-Picayune. Her story on Hubig’s Pies, a small fried pie company in New Orleans, won an award for Best Business Writing from the New Orleans Press Club. 

Katie started her career as a graphic designer in the ASME-nominated art department at New York Magazine. She grew up in the Washington, D.C. area, graduated from Dartmouth College, and now lives in Brooklyn with her husband, son and cat.
